Host companies for an 8 to 10 week work placement for French students in international trade

Dear Sirs,
we would be very grateful if you could send us the names and contact details of companies that could host students in international trade for an unpaid work placement.

Our school , located in Sète (Southern France, near Montpellier) offers a two-year post A-level course (BTS) in International Trade (120 ECTS). As part of this course, students are required to carry out an 8 to 10 week work placement in May-June 2012, during which they should canvass for customers. A bilingual work placement agreement (French-English or French-Spanish) will be signed between the host company and our school; this agreement will specify the objective and terms of the placement, its length, the number of hours, as well as the trainee’s status and assignments.

Thank you for considering our request.

Sincerely yours,

Zusammenarbeit mit Schulen, Altergruppe 15-18

Dear Sirs,

The roots of our institution, PIERCE – The American College of Greece go back to 1875 to Smyrna. After the national destruction of 1922, PIERCE moved to Athens.

In the past, the American College of Greece was honored by the Greek Academy for its contribution to the education of Greek youth.

Today, approximately 400 students (between the ages of 15-18) follow the official curriculum as set by the Greek Ministry of Education.

Moreover, they participate in more than 40 clubs of a huge range of interests as well as take part in numerous national and international programs.

We are strongly interested in collaborating, starting from September 2012, on the following topics:

- Immigration

The topic could be studied through historical sources, songs, theater, visual arts, etc.

- Entrepreneurship

The topic could be analyzed through programs of establishing student enterprises (e.g. Junior Achievement)

- Architecture and arts

Through this program local architecture can be analyzed in relation to history and art movements

The programs should involve students between the ages of 15 – 18.

We are interested in communicating and working together via the World Wide Web and organizing exchange visits to each other’s schools in order to present our work.

Hoping to hear from you soon.

Jugend in Aktion Seminar (4.3) zu "Mobilität junger Menschen" (engl.)

Jugend in Aktion Seminar (4.3) zu "Mobilität junger Menschen" (engl.)

A french association "The Regional Federation of Maisons Familiales Rurales" in Lower Normandy (France) is searching partners to take place in a youth in action seminar (4.3) about "the mobility of young people" :

"Off we go ! The mobility of young people : from local to European citizenship"

Experiences sharing, good practices, reflection

Thank you for disseminating this information among yours contacts !

Please find bellow a presentation of the organization, about the partners, their project and the profil of partner we are looking for.

The leader : Regional Federation of Maisons Familiales Rurales" in Lower Normandy (France)

Who are we ?

- General Presentation and values of Maisons Familiales Rurales

The “Maisons Familiales rurales” are associations (non governmental organizations) which are private and training schools in France and in some parts of the world (Africa, Quebec, South and Central America, Asia, Spain, Portugal, Italy…) The MFR are involved in Education. MFR are professional training centers.

These associations organize trainings in different professional fields like : agriculture, personal services, horticulture, rural tourism, projects in rural areas… Each school works on technical courses with the students like how choose a professional orientation, how to launch projects of pet shops, how to build projects of dog grooming show, how to advice to students on which courses to follow… The schools receive young people from 14 to 22 years old. Young people follow sandwich courses : one week at school, one week in the professional placement.

The Maisons Familiales Rurales (MFR) are particular because these associations are :

- A Human-sized place. The number of pupils is always limited about 100-150 people.

- A place where you can find an educational family atmosphere. The exchanges and the follow-up are facilitated between young people and adults.

-  A place where the families take part in the education of their children and have a major role in the running of the association (they can be board of director, administration members…)

- A place where the teachers can either be trainers, youth workers and facilitators at the same time for young people. They have to be good listeners.

- A place where the apprenticeship of the citizenship is very important. The young people prepare a diploma and they also have to learn to live together and to feel responsible. The MFR are places of life, where young people learn about themselves, about the community life and where young people develop apprenticeship of the citizenship.

- A place where the boarding school is recommended for young people from 14 to 18 years old, but is not a necessity. The boarding school is a place of the apprenticeship of the autonomy and the responsibility.

- A nearness place : mostly, the schools are situated in rural areas, in a green place. The associations are integrated in the territory and most of these schools work with some local partners (local authorities, town-twinning, organizations of farmers, small and medium enterprises, NGOS…)

- A place of non-formal education : young people are involved in projects during the evening (after the courses) and they also are encouraged to develop projects in small groups which can take place during the day and during the week-end such as the creation of a theater play, organization of a beef festival, a pet show or a sport tournament…

►         Regional Federation of Maisons Familiales Rurales (MFR)  in Lower Normandy

In Lower Normandy, there are 26 Maisons Familiales Rurales.

In each school, a trainer is in charge to develop “European mobility” in the association during formal and informal education timetable. Young people are encouraged to develop a mobility project in autonomy with their training project or in informal groups such as study visit abroad, forum, festival, project of general interest… The Regional Federation of Maisons Familiales Rurales in Lower Normandy coordinates the network of “European Mobility trainers”.  6 trainers from 6 different MFR work together to realize this project :

Aline (MFR La Ferté Macé) : She is very interested in non formal education practices because she participated in a training organized by the Council of Europe some years ago.  She would like to use more these pedagogical practices with young people and encourage her colleagues to use them in order to teach democracy or encourage European active citizenship. She would like to find new partners abroad to develop European projects.

Bérénice (MFR Balleroy) : She wants to develop European projects in their association. She is interested in Comenius partnerships and youth exchanges. She would like to find new partners abroad.

Fabienne (MFR Maltot) : She organizes some study visits abroad with young people and she would like to encourage them to take more initiative, to be more responsible. She would like to help them to feel more European. She would like to find new partners abroad to develop European projects.

Fabrice (MFR Saint Sauveur Lendelin) : He organises Comenius partnership projects in his association and he is interested in youth in action program (Evs, youth exchanges…). He coordinates the regional network of “European Mobility trainers” in the Regional Federation of Maisons Familiales Rurales in Lower Normandy. He would like to find new partners abroad to develop European projects.

Henri (MFR Mortagne au Perche) : He organizes some study visits abroad with young people and support youth local projects. He would like to work more in cooperation (Europe, International…) and to be helped to motivate young people to take part in projects. He would like to find new partners abroad to develop European projects.

Sébastien (MFR Granville) :  He helps young people to find training placements abroad, and he helps young people during their mobility. He would like to encourage young people to participate more actively and to find new partners abroad.

The Regional Federation of Maisons Familiales Rurales in Lower Normandy works with a regional NGO about the topic of European citizenship : Le Carrefour Rural Européen des Acteurs Normands (CREAN). This organization is an information center about European Union in Lower Normandy and a local relay of “Youth in Action” program. CREAN is member of the European network  “Europe Direct” : http://europa.eu/europedirect/index_en.htm

This organization will take place in the project.

What do we want ?

Most young people in these associations are from rural areas and they are almost in the professional life. They rarely go abroad and some of them even have difficulties to “move” in their own territory. That’s why it can be hard for trainers, in charge of promoting “mobility”, to help them to develop a mobility project and to involve them in a personal or in collective project.

Trainers and youth workers need to support young people before, during and after their mobility abroad in order to allow young people to take more advantages on their mobility experience for themselves and for their territory.

Tile of the project :

"Off we go ! The mobility of young people : from local to European citizenship"

Experiences sharing, good practices, reflection

This seminar is for youth workers (people who work in leisure’s organizations, in sport clubs…), social workers and trainers who work with young people from 14 to 25 years old, who support youth actions (trainings, personal initiatives, social inclusion, citizenship…) and who help young people to be more committed in their territory thanks to their mobility experience. The partners who work both on non formal education and formal education are very welcome !

Objectives ?

-           Create a special “tool box” to support young people to live plainly their “mobility” before going abroad to motivate them to take place in a mobility project;

-           Exchanging good practices;

-  From mobility to motility (capacity to use mobility to develop personal benefits and skills) : exchanges and reflections about European and International tools like Youth pass, Europass mobility, Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, knowing different national and European tools on “mobility skills”.

- The seminar has to be an opportunity to create new local and European partnerships particularly with others MFR of Lower Normandy. It will enhance for favoring projects with European dimensions (youth exchanges, EVS, Youth initiatives projects, Comenius partnerships, Grundtvig partnerships, Leonardo Da Vinci projects…)

When ?

Dates of seminar : from 3 to 9 of December 2012 in Lower Normandy

Partnership ?

Number of participants : 17-20 pers

From 6 countries with maximum 2 participants per country from an organization which are motivated by the objectives of the seminar and which want to create new partnerships.

Costs ( to define)

30% of travel cost (city of departure has to be definite) 50 euros / participants for activity costs Food and accommodation taking in charge

URBACT II - Italien (engl.)

URBACT II - Italien (engl.)

The City Council of Terni, http://www.comune.terni.it/ (situated in Umbria Region, Italy), is searching for partners for a project proposal to be submitted under the upcoming Urbact II proposal closing on 15/3/2012 (http://urbact.eu/en/header-main/news-and-events/view-one/news/?entryId=5100).

The project will focus on how to create a favourable “commercial ecosystem of new ideas” that could help out cities in setting collaboration and thus new management schemes for public regenerated areas and how this would contribute to smart growth. Such process should work and reflect the latest debate at Eu levels on how public policies, and post 2013 cohesions policies in particular, could sustain the entrepreneur search and thus regional local specialisation potential.

Urbact II requires an initial composition of partnership made of 5 EU city partners (only cities are eligible) located 50%+1 in convergence and 50% +1 competitiveness areas.

We are looking for 4 city partners with the following:

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS

Middle sized cities (non metropolitan), located in “industrial production zones” (OECD 2010-2011 classifications on Innovation regions). We are looking to work with cities from Urbact eligible countries who have already adopted flexible PPP mechanisms, who have worked/or are working (*) at large urban redevelopment projects where entrepreneurial development strategies have been/are significant (*) and have produced/might set to produce (*) successful results that could be relevant in the S3 logic and its possible application to future cohesion policies.

(*) in the case of convergence regions

SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS

- 2 partner cities preferably located in Finland, France, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Netherland and U.K. possibly countries where debate are already on at regional and national levels in the field S3 logic as a tool of post 2013 cohesion policies.

- 2 partner cities preferably from Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Rumania and Hungary which are large beneficiaries of SF and that have in particular been experimenting on large regeneration urban projects such as business centres, incubators etc.

PRECONDITIONS TO JOIN THE PARTNERSHIP

a) All partners should have already in place (or definition in progress) an urban strategic plan/agenda thus demonstrating a strong political commitment, a serious debate and options on local specialisation of the city partner have already been concretely initiated. In this sense local specialisation will be reflected in Urbact project, whereas partners will be free to elect the best local potential according to the S3 logic application.

Urban strategic plans will ensure the concrete operability of an Urbact II proposal which requires developing partner-specific Local Action plans and identification of ULSG (Local support groups).

b) Involvement of the Managing Authorities of their respective territory will be also relevant. Partners should demonstrate which are the main policies, plans and actions promoted by the MA and in case ensure direct support to the project, were it to be successful. Please note that support of the MA should be reflected in the bid document.

For any further information, do not doubt to ask:

Participating Countries: At least 4 EU Member States

The inspiring idea behind the project

In many European countries and Greece as well services experience multiple examples of service fragmentation. This is as a direct result of either limitations to or a lack of interconnections within and between services or excessive bureaucratical forms of interconnections. Consequently this creates enormous pressure on resources (both human and financial resources) and major inefficacies in services supply.

Possible solutions to this include the one-stop-shop service model, but these solutions are limited as they narrowly focus on problems, which evolve due to a bureaucratical dimension. The CARMEN PROGRAMME has suggested another approach in care supply for older people, that of “integrated care”. The evolution of integrated care model underpinned by the principles of “integrated care” within the municipal health and social services networks is a viable solution. This will address the very important issue of cost containment as well as providing quality assurance of services provision for users of social care services. The strength of the integrated model is through its client-centered character, especially in circumstances of economical crisis where there is a strong increase in demand for both health and social services at a local level. Though this process the municipal developmental policy will be reinforced and citizens will become more actively involved.

A few words about the term “integration”

Integration has many meanings and interpretations (Kodner και Spreeuwenberg 2002). Here we define ‘integrated care’ as a well-planned and well-organised set of services and care processes, targeted at the multi-dimensional needs/problems of an individual client, or a category of persons with similar needs/problems.

We specifically concentrate on integration issues for people- users of social services with complex and multiple needs focusing on services integration that demand interconnection of organizations. Tasks and services also have to be integrated within organisations, but that type of integration is a more common management task, while integration across organisations and services is a relatively new issue for service provision across the long-term care sector.

Integrated care can be conceived as client- or consumer-driven care (Kodner 2003). As such, it is not very different from developments in industry, agriculture, commercial services, or other public sectors such as education, town and country planning, youth care or public transport. In all these sectors, supply-driven management systems are gradually being replaced by integrated, demand-driven systems. These systems are developed because of client demand, but also because they are cost effective and efficient, as well as offering employees more job satisfaction (van der Aa and Konijn 2001, Goodwin et al., 2003).

Integrated and linked services can serve all these objectives, and the various services can fit together well in a range of areas, including care for older people. What is more, service users themselves are demanding integrated services. In a time of increasing demands and decreasing resources, it is obvious and politically compelling that health services should work closely with community and social care services to fulfill their objectives. Finally, for care workers, integration provides new perspectives in career and professional development.

Integrated care is not an outcome, but a means of achieving optimum performance at all levels of service provision for specific population groups. This shift from supply-driven to demand-driven care requires new management styles, professional working arrangements and new skillsets. This new type of professional assumes the role of case manager. Case managers will be faced with multiple challenges and loyalties while integrating and connecting services around the client, which requires confident within that professional and autonomy to deliver the role effectively. Their challenge is to organize and secure care and service provision so that it:

• Supports the ‘real world’ of clients as they function within their own environment as father, mother, worker, etc.

• Orchestrates required tasks from other professionals, informal caregivers and volunteers

• Connects and combines services within organisations

• Co-ordinates services delivered by different providers

• Interconnects with the specific framework or care system.

The proposal

The suggested project mainly consists of educational training into the concept of “integrated services”. This would be for staff employees and political staff of municipalities. A pilot project would be completed in selected municipalities and knowledge exchange would occur between the members of the consortium.

Who will benefit:

Directly: Staff employees and political staff of municipalities

Indirectly: Citizens of municipalities participating in the pilot implementation, the Municipalities, Vulnerable Social Groups, Public and private organisations Offering social services, NGOs, etc.

Structured Content:

  1. Educational training and networking of staff employees and political staff of municipalities
  2. Educational Needs Analysis
  3. Training for the Trainers model
  4. Educational material production
  5. Pilot Implementation

Castilla y León -Partner Search EuropeAid

Castilla y León -Partner Search EuropeAid

Dear Colleagues,

Castilla y León is currently looking for partners to submit a project under the EuropeAid programme. The project aims to create a sensibilisation and education campaign for the development based on web or hub, which will contain personalized contents for each target country and whose main action is an audiovisual medium campaign about the MDGs. Secondary actions, which will be under the framework of audiovisual medium campaign, will consist in bringing closer the cooperation and development, the causes and consequences of poverty, the actions of local authorities and civil society organizations in developing countries to improve their situation, through meetings, trainings, exhibitions, musical events or interventions concerning art, design or cinema; to put it differently, through those activities which are quite familiar for our target public and where it will be easier to raise awareness. (to inform- to train- to sensibilize)

Project: EuropeAid/131143/C/ACT/Multi

Deadline: 1st February 2012

Target policy: Lot 2; Launching of a local strategy through a sensibilisation campaign in order to raise awareness about the MDGs (Millenium Development Goals) adopted by UN on the 8th September 2000. http://www.un.org/spanish/millenniumgoals/ares552.html; http://www.un.org/spanish/millenniumgoals, engaging different development agents, local authorities, civil society organizations, individual citizens and private firms.

General Purpose: As a result of the acknowledgement of the EU regarding the role carried out by local authorities within the cooperation and development field, not only as providers of services but also as catalyzers for a change in the attitudes due to its closeness to the civil society, we attempt to foster the institutional and operative capacities of local and regional authorities (in our case, the Junta de Castilla y Leon, as a regional authority) coordinating our efforts with other development agents and the European Institutions.

Specific Purpose 1: To increase the support from local and regional authorities in the EU to international commitments within the field of cooperation and development, particularly, the raise of awareness about the MDG.

Specific Purpose 2:  To promote citizen commitment and fairer and more sustainable individual and institutional practices through the launching of a sensibilisation and education campaign for the development at the local and regional level.

Specific Purpose 3: To bring closer cooperation and development actions from different member states so as to exchange good practices and expertise.

Action: To launch a sensibilisation campaign through audiovisual mediums in order to raise awareness about the MDGs as a cornerstone of a set of actions to fulfill the content of each spots targeting different cooperation agents and stakeholders. ICTs will be used in order to coordinate the actions that will take place within the partner countries of the project. The idea is to attempt to reach the general public by linking the context of the cooperation and development to their professional or leisure activities (for instance, through training, exhibitions, musical events, video prizes, etc…). Special attention will be paid to those groups which are less familiar with the concept of cooperation and development. It is also expected to count with civil society organizations and local/regional firms.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Proposal

CSV (Community Service Volunteers) Ipswich, an NGO in the UK, is looking to become a partner in a project application, not a lead applicant.

The three priorities in the Daphne Call for Proposals that Ipswich CSV would like to address are below. We would be interested in partnering a project that addresses any or all of the priorities listed:

4.1.2 Violence linked to harmful practices (VHP)

Projects dedicated to combating and preventing violence linked to so-called harmful practices (e.g. female genital mutilation, forced marriage or forced sexual relationships, honour killings) committed against women, young people and children, in particular activities with emphasis on direct participation of the communities, including targeted awareness raising, education, specialised training of key professionals as well as promotion of dialogue within

practicing communities.

4.1.5 Training programmes (Tpfp)

The Commission wishes to support projects involving the preparation and delivery of the programmes including the creation of manuals and protocols for professionals in contact with victims (police, judicial, social workers, health staff) or people working in the area of specialised victim support.

4.1.6 Empowerment work at grass-roots level (EW)

Projects should be aiming to empower children, young people and/or women to protect themselves and their peers against violence. Such programmes might specifically include training, counselling, formal and informal support group mechanisms and innovative ideas for developing a protective environment for children, young people and women.

Organisation looking to join project(s)

CSV is a UK national charity providing various volunteering and training opportunities for a wide variety of communities and people with specific support for BME communities and the barriers they face.

links with other potential partners

CSV Ipswich would be able to bring other potential partners into a project consortium, in particular:-

·         Suffolk Constabulary (i.e. the Police) in the UK, in particular with the Honour Based Violence (Forced Marriage & FGM) and Communities section of the police.

·         Cathy Press, Chair, Compassion, Domestic Abuse Trainer & Consultant and Specialist Domestic & Sexual Abuse Clinical Practitioner.

Details and Experience

CSV has experience in European funding and being part of European projects including ESF, Youth in Action, European Integration Fund, and Interreg Two Seas Programme.

CSV is able to access large numbers of women from minority communities who are or may encounter cultural based abuse such as honour based violence.

We are able to work alongside Suffolk Constabulary, a count- wide police force with the Honour Based Violence (Forced Marriage & FGM) and Communities section who have developed support and have vast experience in the area of honour based abuse and associated cultural practices. Last year there were 118 reported cases of honour based crime in Suffolk with many more unreported. The unit has trained over 1100 professionals in the last 12 months including health visitors, midwives, teachers, social workers, student professional and community organizers. We have worked with polish, Kurdish, Asian and Latin American women.

We would like to partner a project that focuses on honour based violence and the embedded cultural beliefs and values that contribute to this happening. We would like to work on a project which addresses language issues, breaking down barriers to access support. We have worked in schools and the local community to educate young girls and boys.

We would specifically like to put in place a programme of support for women and girls who have been moved, left their communities and suffer isolation through mentoring and befriending from those who have also previously experienced this and explicitly understand the emotional and psychological impact. We would like to learn from European partners their experience of HBV and any system of community based support that has been successful and could be replicated in the UK. The development of training materials to set up support groups specific to nationalities is also a area of development

We would like to use new media in a variety of languages and locations to access girls and women who are restricted and controlled. There is a need in the UK to research the different cultural values and beliefs of different nationalities which effect the procedures that professional can use and adapt to support victims. The use of creative art, visual displays and audioworks are also an area of interest to communicate to the communities involved.

We are also able to link and access with other UK based organizations who could help in our work. Again we are looking to join a project or consortium but not lead an application at this time.

Das EUROPE DIRECT-Informationszentrum Aragonés (Spanien) sucht Projektpartner in den Bereichen Soziales/Inklusion/Arbeitsmarkt/etc. Es schreibt:

In the Region of Aragón (Spain), from the Department of Social Services and the Department of Employment, we are now in the process of selecting projects in order to exchange, implement or design at a transnational level.

The Instituto Aragonés de Servicios Sociales (IASS), whose main objective is to offer services to citizens to improve and guarantee their quality of life, centers its activities around these areas: People with disabilities, elderly, life long learning, infancy and adolescence protection, social inclusion, social services of general interest or employment.

From the Institute of Social Services of Aragón, the dimension of transnationality is allocated to all projects approved in its last Call for Proposals (Innovation Program), depending on their thematic area. The idea is to facilitate all entities the possibility of complementing transnational actions in their projects without them having to look for partners and coordinating these activities.

So, if you are interested in transnational actions and need a partner, you can contact us and we will offer you more information.

Organisation:
Gunnebo House and Gardens

Gunnebo House and Gardens is one of Sweden’s foremost 18th century facilities and is beautifully situated in Mölndal, just South of Gothenburg at the Swedish West coast. Gunnebo and its surroundings offer visitors recreation and inspiration as well as the opportunity to gain an insight into a bygone age. Gunnebo House and Gardens is one of West Sweden’s most popular tourist sites with a wide of variety of events, including music concerts, theatre shows, weddings, dinners, conferences and guided tours.

The house was built during the last two decades of the 18th century for one of the wealthiest men in Sweden at the time, the merchant John Hall the elder. At the end of the 18th century Gunnebo was one of Sweden’s most modern and most expensive summer houses.

1996 saw the beginning of a unique restoration and reconstruction project called Gunnebo – return to the 18th century. It was funded by the EU, the Swedish National Heritage Board and the City of Mölndal. The purpose of the project was to mediate the methods of older craft to modern artisans using the master – apprentice approach. The greenhouse, the old kitchen garden and parts of the formal garden and the house has been reconstructed using traditional methods according to a 200 year old design plan from architect Carl Wilhelm Carlberg’s preserved original drawings. The project was concluded in 2006 and comprised reconstructions of the wings and the new kitchen garden. Gunnebo House and Gardens has been awarded the Europa Nostra Prize of EU for preservation of cultural environments.

Project idea:
To prepare for the next stage of the reconstruction – the orangery in the southern section of the formal garden - Gunnebo House and Gardens is now looking for partners in Europe for exchange of experience and networking activities.

In the 18th century, the Orangery was mentioned as Gunnebo’s jewel. In the lavish building, exotic trees and plants were winter stored, such as citrus, laurel, oleander, pineapple and orange. Besides the greenhouse part, the building's also contained an exclusive lounge.
An archaeological excavation of the orangery meadow has been performed. The first part of the building process will be to restore the stone foundation.
At first stage, the networking activities would not be financed through EU-funds. However, Gunnebo would at a later stage be interested in applying for suitable EU-funds, for example within the Culture 2007-2013 Programme.

Partners searched:
Organisations with experience and knowledge within preservation of cultural environments (buildings and gardens). Preferable within reconstruction of orangery’s from the 18th century.  The partners searched are probably tourist sites as well as historical sites.

Key words:
Orangery, history, culture, 18th century, crafts, reconstruction, preservation

DAPHNE III PROGRAMME TO PROTECT VICTIMS AND GROUPS AT RISK BY COMBATING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN, YOUNG PEOPLE AND CHILDREN

PROJECT PROPOSAL – MULTI-AGENCY ALCOHOL HUB

Title

            Multi-Agency Alcohol Hub initiating a range of co-ordinated interventions while offenders are still in Police custody aimed at preventing alcohol-related violent repeat offending, reducing alcohol consumption and ultimately supporting and protecting the victims of violent crimes.

Applicant

            Aberdeen City Council

Background

            Scotland is a culturally diverse nation with a vibrant economy. The North East is particularly diverse with a buoyant economy borne out of the oil and gas sector. However there are still significant pockets of multiple social deprivation and health inequality within Aberdeen City.

The excessive consumption of alcohol by young people is a significant problem in Scotland and Aberdeen is no exception.  Many of the most prolific offenders are young people under 18 years of age whose chaotic lifestyles are ruled by alcohol, which acts as a catalyst for a wide range of violent crime and antisocial behaviour which impacts upon all areas of society, not least the innocent victims of their criminal acts.

Statistical research conducted by a range of organisations including Grampian Police clearly substantiates this assertion, with the following table providing a brief, though representative snapshot of how prolific some violent young offenders are within the City of Aberdeen: -

Age     Most Prolific Violent Offenders Between 01.04 – 28.10.10

14        8 x Minor Assault
15        5 x Minor Assault
14        5 x Minor Assault
17        4 x Minor Assault
22        2 x Minor Assault; 1 x Serious Assault
17        2 x Minor Assault; 1 x Serious Assault
23        2 x Minor Assault; 1 x Serious Assault
20        2 x Minor Assault; 1 x Serious Assault
24        2 x Minor Assault; 1 x Serious Assault
15        2 x Minor Assault; 1 x Serious Assault

Other national research has shown that young people are not just statistically more likely to be the perpetrator of a crime, they are also most likely to be the victim.  The 2008/09 Scottish Crime and Justice Survey  found those aged 16 to 24 years old had a 12% risk of being a victim of a violent crime compared with 1% of those aged 60 or over.  Young males aged 16 to 24 were also significantly more likely to be victims of violent crime than young females of the same age group.

In terms of delivering effective interventions, a series of analyses have shown that interventions offered while an individual is in Police custody can propel a change in behaviour, particularly in cases where that individual may not have previously sought assistance from external agencies.

The pattern of repeat offending destabilises the individual’s lifestyle, affecting their families and friends, as well as society as a whole through homelessness, unemployment and a lack of social cohesion.  Moreover, health service providers face a growing problem caused by the excessive consumption of alcohol by young people where the onset of chronic medical conditions can be significantly advanced, severely impacting upon the individual’s mental health and wellbeing.

In the current economic climate in Europe it is therefore important that interventions offered by organisations across all sectors of society are co-ordinated to ensure tailored and sustained programmes are created; in essence bespoke programmes for bespoke individuals.  A small multi-agency alcohol hub comprising representatives from key organisations, such as Police or the Prison Service, Health Service providers and Alcohol Counselling or Treatment Services, operating from the point the individual leaves custody, can act as the adhesive that binds all these agencies and interventions together to ensure maximum co-ordination and engagement by clients with particularly chaotic lifestyles, resulting in a reduction in crimes of violence and a corresponding increase in benefits to society through less victims of violent crime and greater social cohesion.

The diagram below provides an idea of the composition and relationships that might exist in a Multi-Agency Alcohol Hub:

Specific Objectives    The project’s primary aim is to reduce repeat violent and antisocial behaviour offending by young people referred to the Multi-Agency Alcohol Hub by co-ordinating the sustained engagement by services with them, in so doing providing support to allow individuals to reduce their dependence on alcohol.  With Multi-Agency Alcohol Hubs operating in whole or in part across Europe, the specific objectives are to transnationally :-

•           Prevent and reduce repeat offending for violent alcohol-related crime by young people;
•           Increase the numbers of young people being accepted onto alcohol (or other substance misuse) treatment programmes;
•           Reduce repeat alcohol-related hospital admissions by young people;
•           Share best practice and examples of innovative interventions that have been deployed to avoid repeat violent offending.

Partnership     Desired partners: - Voluntary (NGO) organisations, Police Forces or law enforcement agencies or health service providers specialising in: -

•           Initiating alcohol treatment or related referrals to repeat young offenders within or at the point of leaving Police custody;
•           Initiating and sustaining alcohol treatment or counselling programmes for chaotic young people following their liberation from custody back into a community setting;
•           Linking alcohol-related interventions delivered within the Acute Sector with other related ones delivered on an ongoing basis within a community setting;
•           Working collaboratively to ensure interventions aimed at preventing youth offending and reducing inappropriate alcohol consumption operate alongside others aimed at delivering ongoing training programmes, leading to more robust rehabilitation and re-integration towards greater employability.

Call for Proposals       Daphne III 2011 Call

Actions Foreseen       The systems that will enable the Multi-Agency Alcohol Hub to function effectively and promote inter-agency co-operation will be developed throughout the life of the project in partnership.  These will be integrated and reinforced with proposals submitted by future partners.

In the meantime the actions foreseen by the proposal are: -

•           Facilitating an exchange of good practices and experiences by those working in this field;
•           Learning of surveys, studies and investigation relative to alcohol-related interventions delivered within a custodial environment;
•           Developing and implementing appropriate information sharing protocols or informed consent programmes that will allow the Alcohol Hub to ensure a comprehensive and sustainable approach is adopted in respect of young people;
•           Exploring how to advance beyond the delivery of Alcohol Brief Interventions (ABIs) delivered in isolation, into other areas that will aid recovery, reduce repeat violent offending and protect victims, particularly initiatives enabling young offenders to gain entry on to employability training programmes;
•           Establishing more effective links between Health Services, Hospitals and Alcohol Counselling Services working with individuals to provide ongoing alcohol counselling and other forms of intervention following their discharge from hospital, to facilitate a seamless journey toward their recovery, thereby reducing the risk they pose to potential victims by repeat violent offending;
•           Determining the extent of referral routes into and from the Alcohol Hub and the frequency that its members require to meet to assemble bespoke interventions;
•           Disseminating the results obtained through the Daphne Programme on how a Multi-Agency Alcohol hub can be adapted and built upon by other beneficiaries and in other transnational regions.

Deadline         Interest in this project should be registered by completing the Expression of Interest Form and returning it to the contact below by 15th July 2011.

Partner für Aktion 4 "Aktive europäische Erinnerung" / Europa für Bürgerinnen und Bürger

Partner für Aktion 4 "Aktive europäische Erinnerung" / Europa für Bürgerinnen und Bürger

Date: 15 April 2011

Hello,

Since 2008, ASBL Besace, Belgian youth organization, carried out four short movies over the Second World War. This duty to remember tries to render comprehensible for the young people what the witnesses of this time have lived.

We are seeking European partners to answer the call of the action 4 “Active European Remembrance” of the program “Europe for Citizens”.

You will find a summary of the project below. Can you help us with our research?

Thank you in advance,

Claire Hennen

Besace STL

liege(at)besace.be

Summary of the project

We will realise a film that will cross the victims of Nazism and Stalinism testimonies from different European countries, to participate in the duty to remember of the atrocities of World War Two, and make sure they never happen again. To achieve this, we will have to sensitize the young generation: the diffusion of the film will be accompanied by intergeneration meetings, to put in contact the witnesses of those times and the young people.

Beginning statement

The European Union has been based on fundamental values (freedom, democracy, respect of the human rights) and as a reaction to the atrocities of the Second World War, which has tested these values severely.

Remembering these events make it possible to reaffirm those values, to understand them and not reproduce them. It is important to sensitize the young generations, for which the conflict is already far away. Moreover, this duty to remember is urgent: the witnesses of the time disappear gradually.

Objectives of the project

  • Gather Europeans of the various Member States and the various generations around a common history.
  • Allow the European young generation to appropriate its past.
  • Reinforce the dialogue between generations in order to keep in memory a the history of World War Two
  • Warn against the rise of the extremism and insist on the importance to preserve our democratic values of tolerance, respect, citizenship and freedom.

For whom ?

  • Young Europeans from 12 to 14 years of various countries of the European Union
  • The witnesses of World War Two who need opportunities to talk about their experiments.

How ?

  • Meeting witnesses of various countries and collect their testimonies;
  • Compilation of these testimonies in a collection (Internet site or file);
  • Realization of a film which crosses their testimonies : a number of predefined questions will be asked, to establish what was similar and what was different in the experiments of the witnesses from different countries (the themes will be defined with the partners : prisoners camps, freedom of speech, army, resistance, end of the war, anti-Semitism,...)
  • (Realization of a teaching file accompanying the movie);
  • Organization of a projection of the film in each country where we have a partner, in the presence of witnesses and groups of young people;

Ideas of required partners:

  • Schools, youth organizations
  • Patriotic associations
  • History Circles
  • Museums
  • Memory associations
  • Citizenship centres
  • Associations defending the Human rights, freedom of expression…
  • File centres, libraries…
  • Cities
  • Tourist offices
  • Arts centres
  • Audio-visual associations (realization of films, Internet site)

Where?

It is important to reinforce the dialogue between people who lived the War in different countries and in different ways: Allied powers, forces of the Axis, attacked countries, occupied ones, countries having changed of camp during the war, neutral countries…

Result?

Realization of a collection of testimonies with a pedagogical dimension, a movie and un report about the experiences of the project.

Portugiesische Schulen suchen Partner für ein Comenius-Projekt

Portugiesische Schulen suchen Partner für ein Comenius-Projekt

Dear Sirs / Madams

My name is António Santos and I’m the deputy director for a group of schools in Cascais, Portugal, named “Agrupamento de Escolas de Alvide”. Our group of schools has 1200 students from kindergarten to high school, on two pre-school classes, three primary schools with nineteen classes and a secondary school with classes from 5th grade to 12th grade. Last school year we finished a multilateral Comenius project with our primary level students. We are now applying for a new multilateral Comenius project for our 3rd level primary school students called “Tell me how it was in your time, grandfather” and attached you will find a first draw of it. At this time we have confirmed the joint partnership of a primary school from Wales (which previously worked with us) and we are looking for new partners. As we are proposing the project, we will be the coordinating school.

We would very much appreciate if you could assist us in finding a partner primary school in your country that wants to embark with their 3rd grade students onboard this new challenge.

As time urges, we would appreciate to have an answer as soon as possible. Hope to welcome one of your schools on this project.

Thanking you in advance.

António Santos

Sportliche Radlerinnen für ein Projekt im Rahmen des Programms Jugend in Aktion gesucht

Sportliche Radlerinnen für ein Projekt im Rahmen des Programms Jugend in Aktion gesucht

Hello and Happy new Year to you.

Europe Direct North East England has been approached by a group of 8 girls aged 14-16 who are part of the WOW Club (Women on Wheels) in County Durham, North East England. They are all keen mountain bikers and have recently completed several impressive UK cycle challenges. They would now like to find a similar, English-speaking group in another European country with whom they could plan a youth exchange around cycling, sport and healthy living, through the European Commission’s Youth in Action funding programme. The girls don’t mind whether they host a group in the UK first or travel to another country, but they would like at least the first part of the exchange to take place during the school summer holidays of 2011 (22nd July - 5 September 2011). This means that they would need to apply for funding to the 1st April deadline at the latest.

If you know of any groups which might be interested in developing a cycling exchange, please contact Lucy Turzynski at lucy.turzynski(at)durham.gov.uk.

Kind regards,

Dorothy Gibson
